Standard Chartered has appointed Naveen Mallela as Global Head of Payments, effective May 4, 2026. Based in Singapore, Mallela will consolidate collections, clearing, and payments teams into an integrated organization covering both traditional and emerging digital payment flows, including tokenized and on-chain settlement models.
Mallela brings over 25 years of transaction banking and payments innovation experience. At JP Morgan Chase, he co-led Kinexys (formerly Onyx), a blockchain unit focused on real-time, 24/7 cross-border payments and digital asset settlement. He will report to Mahesh Kini, Global Head of Cash Management.
The hire reflects Standard Chartered’s strategy of modernizing its cash management operations through technology investments and strategic partnerships to address evolving cross-border payment demands. CEO of Corporate and Investment Banking Roberto Hoornweg emphasized Mallela’s role in combining clearing and digital asset capabilities.
