PayPal Holdings has appointed Alyssa Henry, former CEO of Block’s Square business, to its Board of Directors. Henry brings more than three decades of experience in global commerce, payments, and technology platforms, including senior leadership roles at Amazon Web Services where she helped scale the cloud infrastructure business from its early stages.
The appointment coincides with the planned departure of Gail J. McGovern, who has served on the Board since 2015 and will not stand for re-election at PayPal’s May annual meeting. Independent Director Ann Sarnoff will succeed McGovern as chair of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee.
PayPal CEO Enrique Lores called Henry “a proven operator with deep experience building and scaling payments ecosystems that are critical to merchants.” Henry said PayPal’s “global scale, trusted brands, and powerful two-sided network uniquely position it to shape the future of commerce.” With the appointment, PayPal’s Board will consist of 12 directors, 11 of whom are independent.
