Allianz’s partnership with Humanity Insured has reached 1.69 million beneficiaries across 14 countries in its first year, providing climate-related insurance coverage to underserved populations who lack access to traditional insurance markets. The initiative used GBP 1.67 million in premium funding to establish GBP 33.5 million in protection coverage, with 59% of beneficiaries being women.

The program deploys subsidized parametric insurance, which pays out based on pre-agreed triggers rather than traditional claims assessments. In one notable case, a parametric drought policy triggered in June 2025 following severe drought in Syria, releasing USD 7.9 million that enabled food assistance and essential supplies for nearly 120,000 people in agricultural zones. Payouts can arrive within 30 days of a triggering event.

The model emphasizes community co-design, with 64% of grants involving direct community engagement and 43% incorporating community member contributions. Impact measurement extends beyond claims to track income stability, asset protection, school enrollment, and health expenditure reduction. The initiative’s Learning Report 2025 demonstrates that transparent parametric protection generates measurable community impact and builds institutional trust, though future scaling will require careful expansion to maintain local relevance amid intensifying climate volatility.
